About the Department

Overview:

The existence of Department of Resource Management and Consumer Science is since 1966-1967 along with the establishment of College of Home Science renamed as College of Community & Applied Sciences, Udaipur. The old nomenclature of the department was Home Management and then it was further changed to Family Resource Management. Looking to the needs and development of the discipline, M.Sc. programme was started in the year 1979, followed with Ph.D. programme by thesis in the year 1983. Later, in the year 1998-99 for providing better job opportunities soon after completing under graduate education, the department initiated vocational course on ‘Computer Aided Interior and Exterior Designing’, in the 4 year B.Sc. programme was of four years. Further, Ph.D. programme by course work was initiated in the year 2003-04. Lately from the academic session 2006-2007 the B.Sc. Programme transformed into 2+2 scheme, the department introduced two professional courses viz; (1) Institutional Housekeeping and Hospitality Management and (2) Interior and Exterior Space Designing. Recently, from the academic year 2017-18 the B.Sc. programme has been converted into 3+1 scheme again.

 

Objectives:

  1. To facilitate the understanding of family’s choice of resources for personal growth and satisfaction.
  2. To develop competence among students to design work systems for productivity, reliability and safety.
  3. To stimulate awareness in relation to general economic conditions and problems of families.
  4. To sensitize the students about environment and create awareness about the role of family and community at large to maintain ecological balance.
  5. To develop skill in entrepreneurial management.
